PREFETE DUFFAUT
Born in Jacmel
in 1923, he worked with his father as a carpenter, assisting in
building sailboats. He
joined the Centre d’Art in 1948. A naïve painter, at times sophisticated, at times fantastic,
he allowed his imagination to lead him on his canvases. In 1951, Duffaut painted his famous mural in the Holy Trinity
Cathedral in Port-au-Prince,
one of five famous artists whose work is immortalized in this lovely
building. He is
especially renowned for his imaginary cities that stretch up into
the skies, ever mindful of his beloved ocean views in Jacmel.
