RENE HASPIL
Born in Port-au-Prince, in 1954. His father was a merchant and his mother
a dressmaker. He grew up in Martissant, near the house of Laurent Casimir, a
painter of market scenes. By the age of 16, Haspil became a student of Casimir.
By his early 20s, Haspil had developed his own style
of market scenes that borders on the abstract and employs
vibrant blues, blacks and reds. He is proud to say that his paintings come only from
within his head. He loves the cinema, especially James Bond.
